This challenge will be focused on shadows and/or silhouettes. I hope it has not been done before, but I browsed through the thread titles and didnt see anything. I find the opportunity for these shots to be somewhat random and hopefully it may lead to some great images to be shared. Both color and b+w are acceptable. Any image containing either a shadow or a silhouette or both. Here are some examples of mine. The winner will be announced Monday at approx 12am (midnight PST) Good luck everyone!

Interesting idea. I've got a few that fit the theme I think.

First one is from the top of Polychrome Pass in Denali National Park - I spotted a man coming down from the top of the overlook, backlit against the sky and decided to grab a shot.

My second entry is from Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ which is a beautiful sculpture garden. With its strong emphasis on the aesthetic it seems tailor-made to photography as well. We visited this summer and I was blown away by the absolutely gorgeous quality of the light playing among the sculptures and the natural elements like this stand of trees lining a path, creating lines of shadow and light and illuminating the trees from behind like a golden glow.

For those new to the 74 hour challenge, here are the rules copied from previous challenges:

As the title suggests, each challenge lasts for 72-Hours. Everyone gets to submit 2 photos in line with the chosen theme. The winner of the previous challenge gets to choose the new theme (topics can be anything under the sun) and serves as the judge for his/her 72-hour challenge.

For obvious purposes, the judge is disqualified from participating in his/her own 72-hour challenge. Instead, he/she should post up to 2 photos as examples to start out the challenge. Should the winner not be able to commit to being the next judge, the responsibility is passed on to the runner-up.

At the end of the 72-hours (we don't have to be strict about 72-hours, especially with time differences depending on where you are on the globe), the judge will name a golden ribbon winner, a runner-up, and 1 honorable mention. As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We may not all agree with the chosen winners; the judge is encouraged (but not required) to state what criteria he used to decide on a winner.

To make sure we don't break any Mu43 rules/regulations, by participating in this thread you are allowing the judge to repost your image for the sole purpose of announcing the winners for "Shadows/Silhouettes".

This is one of my favorite themes in Photography- shadows.

Since Photography is labeled "painting with light" I have a great fondness of this subject. Our eyes (and correct me if I'm wrong) have greater sensitivity to the dynamic range.. and I guess light/shadows are evidence. Relating this is often hard to do, especially with digital. B&W and Color are both amenable to the light/shadow treatment- but B&W seems more striking.

Anyway... this is with the OM-D:

This was an early shot with a Olympus 620:
