Last Good Friday I had the opportunity to visit Nemocón, a very small town nearby Bogotá, whose main attraction is an old salt mine, open to visitors. It was a fascinating photographic challenge for handheld high ISO images, water reflections and very odd lighting. I want to share some of the mine interior images:

Thank you for your kind request, I post some more images:

    Entrance to the mine:
It was a chilly and rainy morning, before buying tickets and getting underground...

Interesting shots - took me a while to figure out that what looked like double height rooms were actually reflections in VERY still water!

I guess the Fenix capsule in the 5th from last photo is a replica? Nice touch having it on show.

Thank you for your comment. As you figured out, because of it´s density, brackish water mirrors are very still, creating a surreal atmosphere. Even though you touch the water with a stick, it returns to calm very rapidly.

On the other hand, Nemocón´s mine was used as a location for the filming of the Antonio Banderas´movie The 33, that recreated the Chilean miners drama trapped in San José mine in Chile's Atacama desert. After filming, the Fenix 2 salvation capsule replica was left on site as an homage to the 33 Chilean miners that were saved with it.

I will like to add that the crystal sculpted in the shape of Hearth (third photo bottom-up) is the world's largest salt crystal found until today.

 I thought it was a bit odd to have lamp posts hanging up-side down from those balcony like structures but, yeah, ok...
