Hello everybody, I've been lurking here for a little while and decided to finally join up. I just got my copy of a 100-400 in the mail today from Amazon. Of course I immediately slapped it on my GH4 and stepped outside to take a few shots. It was completely overcast so pretty crappy lighting. None of the shots will be framed and put on my wall but I think it was a good test and I am definitely looking forward to shooting this in better conditions. Everything was handheld at max zoom.

This mockingbird was moving while I took the picture and I am pretty impressed with how it came out.

This is a 100% unedited crop of the above picture, not earth shattering but with poor light and a moving subject I don't think its too bad.

    Same mockingbird as above.

This is a 100% unedited crop of the above - notice the red markings around its throat/breast.

Mockingbirds aren't too shy so I got a few shots off.

    And here's the cropped version.

Found a dove that sat still for a few seconds.

    And the crop.

    More to come....

And here is a random shot of nothing.

Here is a crop of the welds.

This fly on the brick wall was only 6ft or so away, still handheld.

And here is the crop, the camera did not focus on the fly very easily.

Here are some bougainvilleas taken from a few feet away.

    And a crop.

    Another bougainvillea shot.

And the crop, I definitely didn't see this ant while I took the shot.

Congrats! Have fun with your lens. I didn't take off my Oly 300 F4 from my M1 since I got it 2 weeks ago ; )

Had some better lighting conditions and took some more shots. Everything has been within 50ft or so of my backdoor so nothing too exotic yet. Everything still handheld, jpg straight out of camera. There seems to be a little softness when the pictures are enlarged, but for handheld at 800mm equivalent I am happy with it.

    And a 100% crop:
