My next prime???

I can't decide! So here's my dilemma...

I have a Samyang 7.5...Oly 17 1.8...Oly 75 1.8.
I know I must buy the 12 2.0 which I intend to next month hopefully.
In the meantime I'm trying to decide on what prime to get to fill the gap between the 17 and 75. I was debating between the obvious choices like the 25 and the 45 but, based on what I have, couldn't decide which would get better regular use. For example I wonder how much use the 45 would get with the 75 just sitting there???

I tend to shoot mostly travel and street and I like to pack light!

So what would be your next prime based on this? Any advise is welcome...tks.

I think I'm missing something here - I'd like to know what makes you think you "must" buy the 12mm. That kind of information would give me a better idea of what you're actually after. If you do street and travel photography, I'd say a good 50mm-e would be more useful than (another) wide lens ...

In my past experience I found that wider frame to be pleasant. With my 12-40, I found that most of my shots were around the 12's.

Well, you should plan on both the 25 and the 45. The 45 used is so cheap, why not?
I know...that's how I felt too. Just wasn't sure if I should try for one over the other first!

I use the Oly 25mm and the Sigma 60mm, and I don't feel there's a gap between the two. The 75mm is of course even longer, but it's possible that the 25mm might still serve for everything up to that telephoto length.

The 12mm is a very good lens, but also quite expensive for what it offers. FWIW, I'd've kept the 12-40mm - it's very, very good at its 12mm end; I don't think that except for the aperture, the 12mm gives you any advantage over the PRO zoom ... Anyway, of the primes I own for :mu43:, I find the 12mm the hardest to recommend. The 25mm (both the Olypmus and the PanaLeica) are much more desirable in my personal opinion and use, but of course, your needs might be different.

I hear what your saying but for me, the 12-40 was too big.
Also I found that the more I got into framing the more I was enjoying the primes so for me personally the 12-40 was getting less and less use and just taking up space in my bag. As far as your recommendation for the 25, I tend to agree with you as I think the 45 just won't get enough use based on my habits.

Have you thought about one of the 30mm options? I like the focal length. Given the rest of your kit, you might be disappointed by the performance of the cheap Sigma 2.8, but the Sigma 1.4 and Panasonic 2.8 macro seem to make good results.

I have the Olympus 12, 17, 25, 45, 75 & 12-40. If I am carrying the 17 I almost never carry the 25. My kit starts with the 17 & 45 and I normally add either the 12 or 75 depending on where I am going or what I am shooting. The lenses that I currently shoot the most with are the 17, 45 & 75.

Which 45mm? If you're moving on a "Prime" prime collection then the 45mm should be the 42.5mm f/1.2 and the 25mm should be the f/1.4. Otherwise either 42.5mm/45mm f/1.7-1.8 and 25mm f/1.7-1.8, take your pick for general use. Of course you could pick one of the 30mm thru 60mm macros.

Looks like he got the 45 already. If I were an all prime shooter I'd invest in a 2nd body. Any well-spaced combo (12/25, 17/45, 25/75) would do wonders without having to do any lens changes.

I did get the 45 here (thanks @peter124). I agreed with statements above that, with the 17, the 25 would not likely see much use. I'm practicing with the 45 now and getting used to fl!

So now the question is will I be satisfied or how soon will I try for the 12 ;)

I shall be a bad boy, and propose checking out the 60mm Oly Macro, it has a rather nice rendering? in normal use and the macro to boost... :)
