My New Pen-F companion...

It's not often I get this excited about a New/Used purchased

I have been using Olympus for 5 years now (came from canon)
and have been shooting with the EM1.2 for 2 of those years.
I have built up quite a collection of Olympus Pro Prime lenses
and have actually made some decent money shooting product and Portrait photography.

I have been using my old EM5 for running B-Roll or as a backup to my EM1.2
& have always wanted to buy a Pen-F but couldn't justify the price for just a Companion or B-Roll camera.

Well I couldn't have been more wrong
I recently acquired a Lightly used Pen-F (14,810 shutter count) for under $700
All I can say is WOW...
Had I known how nice it feels in my hands or how pocketable it is, I would have bought one years ago.
This thing feels like a solid piece of aluminum and even though I have big hands
it still fits me quite well. The front art knob that everyone complains about how it hurts their finger
is not an issue as the Reviewers say (At least not for me)
and the button placement is perfect.

I find myself taking my new Pen-F everywhere I go, unlike my EM1.2

I bought a retro 1970's telescoping VIVITAR Tripod (9 inches to 54 inches)
and a cut-out screw mount lens hood to complete my Retro look...

I am not an Ambassador for Realy Right Stuff
but I own 3 of their ball heads and 2 of their tripods

Yes, RRS is expensive, but their machining is superb!
I like to shop on "KEH.com" and sometimes they have great deals.
I'm always looking for Bargain deals on used equipment and this time was no exception...

The fitment of this mount is perfect and it weighs nothing in my hand.
The side vertical tripod mount is movable to 2 positions so you can still
use the flippy screen but is also removable when needed.

Adding less than a 1/4 of an inch to the bottom of my Pen-F
I feel that the Aircraft aluminum Arka Swiss plate will protect
the Pen-F plastic bottom from scrapes and damage all while adding an extra resting place for my pinky finger

BOPF Plates for Oly PEN-F

So you may be asking why I would make this purchase so late in the game
and with Olympus Rumors for 2019...

I will answer with this:
So often we get all wrapped up in the newest technology, rumors and reviews.
I'ts not whether or not it has the highest megapixels or if it has 4K or even an newer processor (Or at least it shouldn't be)
For me, this camera makes me want to take pictures everywhere I go.
The Pen-F has given me a new sense of creativity ...........and that's priceless
Now that I own a Pen-F....
I understand the "CULT" like following and attraction to this camera

Thanks for reading
best regards, rick

Rick this is so correct. Olympus is giving me back my creativity too.

Can you post a link to where you got that lens hood? I have the Oly one and it doesn't look like that.

Thanks.
Well I bought it on Amazon last week but when I look it's no longer available in 46mm
Maybe you can contact the company and ask them....Heres the link

Hey Rick, couldn't agree more. Besides the tripod thing i did exactly the same and bought a used PEN F.
Should have done that way earlier.

Definitely have also wanted this (just in silver :)). I was hoping for a refurb deal this past black friday/cyber monday, but either it was gone fast or didn't exist (but must admit, I have been waiting for a replacement that improves AF tracking...). I feel like a few of these PEN F things have come up recently, maybe it's a sign to just hunt one down.

Its also my go to camera. I love it for its size and portability, great jpegs right outta the camera, the artistic dial at front and its wonderful retro looks. I carry mine in a small Thinktank Mirrorless Mover 10 bag with three prime lenses or in a small National Geographic pouch with just a 20mm pancake lens when Im out street shooting. Love the Pen-F!

I also have the EM1 Mkii which I adore. However, I seem to be constantly perusing the Pen F image thread more and more. I think I will buy a new Pen F. I want a small prime like maybe the Oly 17mm F1.8. What lens would you guys recommend?

Not a prime but although I have the 12-40 pro I find that it stays at home when in the city as the panny 12-32 sits comfortably on the Pen, is unobtrusive for street, even when hooded, gives a good range for similar, and weighs bugger all. I just love that combo. You can see how short the strap is in the image above having the combo sitting nice on my chest for grabbed/un-aimed shots. I've missed too many opportunities armed with the 17mm prime although I do miss it's speed.

I know I've said this all over this forum already, but I'll say it again. It's my next camera for sure and I'm itching to pull the trigger. The only thing keeping me on the leash is knowing that the Pen F II will be out very soon and there'll be a price drop. Then I'll strike like a cobra. Congrats on the new purchase...I'm right behind you.:drinks:

Adorama always has some awesome deals on-line
look here https://www.adorama.com/l/Used/Cameras/Olympus~Mirrorless-Cameras

I got mine for under $700 US before their Black Friday sale
If you call them and explain that you missed out on Black Friday or Cyber Monday
They might give you a coupon for 20% to 30% off

Regards, Rick

Thanks...They're a great company for sure. I bought my K-50 from them and several lenses. Really tight at Christmas so I should wait yet another month or so. :dash2:

It's good to see all the other happy Pen-F users on this forum. Although my G9 outclasses the Pen-F in many ways, I really prefer shooting with the Pen-F. It's the one that invites me to take photos and have a fun day with a few small Oly primes in my coat pocket.
