Alright, I’ve been thinking of doing a challenge for a while now, and July seems like a good month to do one, because I’ll be getting a new Panasonic 20mm f1.7 v2 in a couple days, and I’m pretty new to that focal length, having only rarely used my Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 pancake (surprising how similar those two options are for two very different systems!) on a film body. So the first part of my challenge will be a month of shooting and posting at least one image from that lens on either my GM1 or EM10.

Secondly I want to include some kind of writing or thinking element with this, so I’m going to require that each photo be related to the previous in some way. Sort of like the photo association thread, except that it doesn’t have to be purely what’s in the photo that’s related: I can make any connection I want to as long as I can support it. Time of day, place, state of mind… I’ll try to make the connection challenging and interesting.

I’ll post the images as close to daily as I can, using the forum for accountability so I don’t slack off! Anyone who wants to join me in this challenge, hop in too!

You might want to check out the July Challenge here. You could easily do what you wish as part of this challenge and participate with others.

    I've got a specific challenge I worked out, it's the one I'm doing ;)

Are you hoping others will join in with only their 20mm pictures? Or just the single lens of their choice?

Any lens choice, in fact anyone who wants to take any element on its own I'm fine with. This is primarily just a reason to stretch my creative sinews, but company is always preferable to solitude in such endeavors so I figured I'd throw that bit in at the end :)

Alright, photo #1 (actually two, I couldn't decide on color vs. B&W)

Panasonic GM1 and 20mm f1.7, processed in PE9.5. All I had time for shooting was under bright afternoon sunlight, but I found a pretty interesting flare pattern in this lens...

Yesterday was a bit of a bust (busy day), but produced this oddball.

Connection: Path or walkway. Drawing from the well-trod pathway in the previous photo I went outside as the light was leaving, and these small solar lights along the pathway into my house looked somewhat intriguing. Perhaps a bit overprocessed, but I guess there's nowhere that says I can't get weird.

Okay, after thinking over my rules (while lamenting how darn hard it is to shoot every single day) I've decided to remove the "association" requirement. Simply shooting and processing a photo that I don't hate most days is good enough. Plus it's still helping me learn the 20mm lens.

I've also realized my GM1 doesn't have the right date, which had me confused as I tried to make up this post, looking at the dates on Flickr!

Finishing up this thread with the rest of the daily shots I made using the 20mm f/1.7 in July. Moral of the story: a daily image is a difficult thing to make! I only made 13 photos (some days I couldn't get anything that made the cut, and just deleted my attempts) and none of them are really great, but it was still a good way to force me to pick up the camera.

A fair amount of other shooting in July that was not part of the challenge, but this is my meager collection here.
