What an agonising wait it has been.....

What can I say that hasn't been said, likely nothing.

    I love it.

I broke down and bought the 50-200 SWD whilst waiting so can compare.
The 40-150 is FAST focusing and silent and that is without the very latest firmware.

Now one thing I really wanted to see is was the MC14 usable with 4/3 lenses, the answer is yes but not without some modification to an adapter. The issue is that the MMF1/2/3 has a flat bit near the electrical pins that stops the circular protrusion on the MC14 from fitting but I had a cheap chinese clone that I didn't mind sanding down to fit and it did. The main issue then is the EXIF data is wrong

So a few photos, very little processing, uncropped but resized for upload

Now trying to get similar framing the 50-200 + MC14

Super impressed at just how fast it focuses.
Do I think it was worth the money, absolutely!

    Cheers

nice tests. Enjoy your new 40-150 Pro and MC14. I take away from your post, you will sell the 50-200 SWD? (no I'm not interested  ) but you can send me that peach

Was the second shot with or without the tele-extender? It's pretty clear that the 50-200mm lens is still pretty good, even if the focussing isn't as fast.

I've only got about 6 peaches on the Mini potted Peach tree this year so no it's all mine  and it's nearly ripe and not as big as it appears in the photos.

Will I sell the 50-200?, highly unlikely now that I know it can used in front of the MC14 for when I need a little more reach whilst still getting very high quality.

One day i'll get to the Australian Tennis Open with it's 200mm max lens limit :)

    Cheers

    Hi Ray,

It was with, the only issue I've found using any of the legacy 4/3 glass I have handy (the cheap stuff) is the lack of correct EXIF data. This could lead to IBIS getting it slightly wrong due to the wrong focal length reported but haven't noticed any issues

Here's another with the 150MC14 (posted in the bee thread but worth posting again)

My E-M1 with mmf3, ec-14 and 50-200 SWD reports focal length to the camera just fine. Just FYI. I would love the 50-150 but cant justify it to myself right now - I don't shoot that much telephoto, and it's. It significantly lighter or smaller (which would be enough of a selling point for me). Maybe a second hand one down the line. The 300/4.0 May be a different story if I get a safari trip coming around again...

OK. The reason I asked is because it might have been handy to compare the 40-150mm and extender with the 50-200mm without. Both focal lengths are pretty close at full extension, so it should be an interesting comparison.

It's odd that you don't get correct EXIF data, as all of my lenses are reported correctly. Is your adapter the MMF3?

    Gents,

The MC14 (the mu43 1.4x TC) has an additional pin that I bet checks the lens as the camera gets the lens actual exif data but fails to report that the MC14 is inline when using 4/3 glass.
So I may have confused when I said no exif data.. sorry.. I meant no info when the MC14 is inline except with the 40-150 mounted.

Ray, I have a MMF3 that I didn't butcher, preferring the test with a clone, now I know it works I may take the dremel carefully to the MMF3 :)

I have some more peaches not fully ripe so this weekend i'll put the camera on the tripod and do the exact 200mm F4 comparison, I'm keen to see if I can spot a difference as out of camera raws do appear to be very very close.

    Cheers

It'll be interesting to see how they compare, especially as the 50-200mm was only considered a HG lens, yet still exhibits outstanding optical performance.

    Hello,

It's been bugging me that I can't use my MMF-2 on the MC-14. Can you please show what part exactly you sanded down to make it fit...

    Thanks

    Hi,

I can do that but with all the caveats that this could ruin the item etc, it also generates a lot of plastic dust that you have to be 100% certain you have cleaned up.

I wasn't going to modify my MMF3 as it will affect the resale value but now I know it works I think I will and I will document it. Standby as I need to find my Dremel to do it properly.

    Cheers

Nice photo's, must go with the name

I haven't forgotten the photo's of modding the MMF, just I seem to have misplaced my Dremel.... cleaned the garage up to make room for other projects and now can't find some things.

    Cheers

Looking forward to hear about that. So far I've used my canon gear for airshows, but I plan to get a 40-150 plus 1.4x and I am curious to see how it would perform on airshows
