Some pics from a couple of open mic nights last week, challenging conditions and lack of experience were a worry but I'm reasonably happy with the results!

Eleven years between photo's of the same young artist
The first one looking back on the settings indicates i had a much steadier hand back then
Taken with an E300, no stabilization, 1/100 @ 118mm and ISO1600, extreme on that camera, High school battle of that bands. Lighting must have been better than i remember though...

Eleven years later taking on the lead singing roll for the support act for Rosendo.
1/100 again ISO5000 EM1mk2 F2.8 .... lighting must have been a lot worse than the E300 image .... times have marched on :)

shake your camera and do not switch off IS
it is the ultimate anti-tripod experience though this technique needs some practising.
I always make use of it in a double exposure to emphasize rising sound intensity

Unfortunately had really far away seats in last night's performance - and we were not allowed to use a tripod - so not too many keepers. Nothing like shooting hand-held telephoto in the dark.

This is obviously a school with an excellent music program; that's great to see!
Nice photos, too!
The entire school district actually. This is from the middle-school band performance - and their band program is really great (my youngest plays there) - but I know that other schools in the district are very good including the high-school program which is quite exceptional (my oldest plays there) - all these bands punch quite a bit above their weight class, I think. It means that sometimes at dinner time the kids get down into music speak that neither myself or my better half can follow.

Andreas Schaerer: A Novel of Anomaly
..enthralled by the sound of the accordion played by Luciano Biondini(I)
I did some visual variations on that instrument. Possibly some of that tremendous melodic energy may be observed.
The other musicians are Andreas Schaerer(CH)vocals and Kalle Kalima(FIN)guitar.

Attempt!
Chinese compositions for classical piano and Korean music for violin.
Different aesthetics need a different visual approach to come up
with something plausible, otherwise the pics would look like anything before from
a concert of old music.

witching hour in a small and very crowded place
the trumpet and the trombone player were reflected in a window pane
as it was dark outside I was able to incorporate the rather uncluttered first
pic into the second exposure.

last night´s images of 17th century music by Marc Antoine Charpentier
Lars Henrik Johansen (harpsichord) and the ensemble L'État Libre de Neige
I like to make images of totally opposite music and conveying its different aesthetics and pulse in my pictures

I wasn't sitting that close to this group performing, first image is a 40mm FL but i'm convinced the lead singer still managed to spot the camera in the crowd in the following two shots.
Group
Baby Animals are an Australian hard rock band active from October 1989 to 1996 and reformed in 2007. The original line-up was Frank Celenza on drums; Suze DeMarchi on lead vocals and guitar; Dave Leslie on guitar and backing vocals; and Eddie Parise on bass guitar and backing vocals

Why do people post pictures of artists/groups and not tell us who they are?

Some great pictures but, come on guys, tell us who the artist(s) are PLEASE.
