A few contributions from my meager collection of fungi. Tentative IDs given.

EXIF doesn't show, but probably EM1.2 w/12-100 f4.

Outcropping of these in the middle of the lawn at Foster Botanical Garden. They looked yummy, but one of the staff said they weren't edible. Maybe they told me that so we wouldn't harvest them. I didn't take a bite. :)

Dr. Don Hemmes, Hawaii mushroom expert, told me these are Macrocybe spectabilis, an immigrant from Asia. He doesn't recommend eating it as some people on Kauai got sick. A related species Macrocybe titans, gets gigantic. These are too recent to be included in his book.

Some bracket fungi (polypore?) along the Ualaka'a Trail on Tantalus. Very colorful. According to Hemmes and Desjardin's book, Mushrooms of Hawaii, these are Microporous flabelliformis, I think. I bought the book just to try to identify these guys. :)

A different bracket fungus along the same trail. I think these are Pycnoporous sanguineus.

Only a crazy person would eat unidentified mushrooms.
Those ones look the “Hawaiian Death Cap”. :)
Haha, only joking. Wouldn’t have a clue.
But , hey, the brackets look tropical. Very colourful.

Hahaha... I agree. Because I suddenly got interested in fungi, I bought the Mushrooms of Hawaii book, co-authored by retired UH Hilo professor Don Hemmes and fungi expert Dennis Desjardin. Actually, to get those white mushrooms identified, I had to contact Hemmes, because they weren't in the book. Hemmes graciously responded and it turns out he is good friends of my parents, going to the same church in Hilo. I thought he looked familiar.

BTW, we do have a "death cap" mushroom here. Amanita marmorata. According to Hemmes and Desjardin, it's deadly poisonous. One bite of the cap could kill an adult human. It's an import from Australia and came in with Eucaplyptus and Meleleuca trees, the latter of which are popular in yards.

Only if your crawling on all fours! ?
I have seen only three different types here in Aotearoa.
Get too close and smell of rotten decaying meat is very obvious.
If someone took a good close whiff, almost certainly result in a gagging reaction...
I’m looking forward to your Hawaiian pics!

What are they?
I can’t see them properly, on my tiny phone.

It's a bracket fungus, but I never thought to look underneath. That's a cool view. Thanks!
Thanks, need to look that one up. I have a whole lot of them on some decade old stumps. Working the UWA end of the PL8-18 a bit to see how I can use it. :)
