Your second image there is not a mushroom. It is the non-photosynthetic plant Ghost Pipe or Indian Pipe.
Yes, a very valid fact. But I thought it might slide through as it wasn’t recognized as “non fungus” until about 10 years ago. Up until then, it WAS thought to be a fungi! It was recently spotlighted by our local state park social media as people have been seeing it near some of the lake trails near the campgrounds and that was what had me seek it out.
Sorry, that's just not true. While the complex relationship that Ghost Pipe has with fungi in its roots may only recently been understood (over the last 50 years or so), it is obviously a plant and has always been described as such.
