Hello everyone and welcome to post processing challenge #65

Not a landscape this time... but something that will appeal to the low light/event shooting folks out there. A shot from a regular blues night at my local bar, the Hotsy Totsy in Ghent, Belgium.

    P3210024.

E-M5 shot with the 45 mm at f/2 at 6400 ISO.... so lots of things to do regarding noise and WB and anything else that you see fit....have fun

Contest will open on Saturday December 14th at 6am (GMT) and end on Monday 16th at 6pm but feel free to enter before if you wish. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing the entries.

    The Rules:

The Challenger will provide any photo that he/she deems worthy of challenging other members to "improve" by way Post Processing. It must be their own photo, and taken with m4/3 equipment. "Improve" is a subjective term, and includes many creative ideas as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenger agrees that entrants may make any changes they deem fit to post in their entry.

The winner of the previous challenge gets to post the next Challenge and serves as the judge for his/her PP challenge.

For obvious purposes, the judge is disqualified from participating in his/her own PP challenge. Instead, he/she should post a photo to start out the challenge.

***** If the winner fails to post a new challenge within five days, the responsibility passes to the runner-up. *****

At the end of the 72-hours (we don't have to be strict about 72-hours, especially with time differences depending on where you are on the globe), the judge will name a winner, a first runner-up, and a second runner-up.

    Entrants
The Challenger's image is posted for the sole purpose of the PP Challenge; it is not posted to invite Critique or Criticism.

Entries shall be limited to 2 per member for each Challenge.

Entrants to post a BBCode link to the Large size image of their PP edit(s), preferably 1024px x npx, or npx x 1024px, if the original image and/or the PP edit allow for these sizes. Also a click-through to the original sized hosted edit if appropriate (but not a requirement for entry). If you post your entry to a photo-hosting site such as Flickr, Photobucket, or a Gallery, etc., please credit the original photographer to make it clear it is not your photograph; something like "Photo taken by xxxxxx over at Mu-43.com" should suffice.

Entrants are strongly encouraged to post the settings and techniques used for their entry, however this is not a requirement for entry.

As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We may not all agree with the chosen winners, but the judges decision is final without adverse comment from the Entrants; the judge is encouraged (but not required) to state what criteria he used to decide on a winner.

To make sure we don't break any Mu-43 rules/regulations, by participating in the PP Challenge you are allowing the judge to re-post your image for the sole purpose of announcing the winners in the thread

Yes, basically. Nik Silver Efex 2 - it really is a great plugin.

I also did a clean, color version where I sort embraced the light. Nice image to work with, you can do a lot of interpretations if you ask me. Will be interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

  5. Cropping to square format, noise reduction, removing the highlights on the right side, removing some specular lights on the singer's glasses, slight increase in overall lighting of her left face. All done with nik filters. And to conclude high pass sharpening.

Done in Lightroom, split tone, vignette, some messing with noise reduction and spot light effect on singer, not too sure about it but here goes

My first entry, a smooth color version processed in LR5.3 and Topaz. I also added a radial filter to modify the lighting.

Second entry, a grainy black & white version, processed in LR5.3 using an Ilford Pan F 50+ low contrast preset with grain. I also used a couple radial filters to modify the lighting a bit, then added a white border.

    Nice image Kevin.

Did my usual square, automatic enhancement followed by some toning and tweaking to Cool the image as befitting Jazz (anyone got a 'Kind of Blue' preset?).

Second was black and white, an Ilford 400 preset from the DxO film-pack and some adjustments to the filter/grain settings.

Wonderful picture. My main goal was to enhance the "pop" for the singer and bring out the emotion. Debated doing a grainy, high contrast black and white, but in this case color worked better for me. All kinds of changes, but everything natively in Lightroom with no plugins.

    nice work wanderenvy

I am not that comfortable that your watermark is on my picture... do you want to take the responsibility that I may or may not have clearance to use this shot?

    please repost without your watermark

I am an easy going guy with regards to my images... but putting your name on my image steps over a line I don't accept.

I am sure this is an innocent oversight... but I had to raise the issue

    Kevin,

No problems, will repost without the watermark as soon as I can. (Not in front of the computer right now) All of the images I post on mu43 go through a default flow and the watermark came on automatically.

To restate the obvious - it's your image and your copyright. :)
