Hi @Kae1
In case you are interested the Olivers Mount Spring Cup at Scarborough (where you shot recently) was screened tonight on ITV4 (part 1 of 2) with quite a lot of coverage of my stepson #361 Ryan Whitehall this time (last year he only appeared very briefly) in the twins race and a couple of other races.
Rob, thanks for this info. I did miss last night's TV but should be able to catch it on the Hub. It's great that your stepson got some TV coverage (hopefully his sponsors will see it too) . The promoters at Olivers Mount have had some dreadful luck and have just announced that they have had to cancel the next two meetings, due to unsafe buildings in the paddock needing to be demolished. They're still hoping to run some events later in the year.

With the lockdown restrictions being extended I'm just trying to make the most of what we're allowed to attend. Hopefully you'll be able to get to see some action soon.?

Hi @Kae1
Edit how are you finding the Panasonic Leica 100-400 - if anything like my previous example it is superb at 100-250 very good 250 - 350 and then tails off a little 350 - 400 ?
I totally agree with your assessment of the lens IQ and it is the best lens I've owned. The only downside for me it is getting a bit too heavy for me to hold steady and I've been trying a monopod, when I'm not panning, as a bit of support. I've been lusting after the Panasonic 50-200 as a lighter alternative but it's too expensive (even second hand).

TBH I'm in two minds whether the heavier better quality lenses or lighter lenses with post processing work best for me o_O. I seem to be doing more post processing now (and even trying RAW) and cropping the shorter focal lengths plus a few tweaks works wonders! Last week I saw the Panasonic 45-175 for £199 and thought similar range to the 50-200 plus light weight, so I took the plunge. I thought that I could try it and if it didn't suit then I could sell it. I'm amazed at what it can do and, like the Olympus 75-300, is helped by a bit of editing. These were from Croft last Saturday.

You need a long focal length for Donington and bikes but can get away with shorter lengths (plus editing) at most of the other circuits. I'll see how this year progresses and then make up my mind as to whether I still need the 100-400. This is the beauty of m4/3 - there are so many alternatives

Finally I was able to obtain a ticket for a motor race after almost 2 years due to Covid restrictions, The Ferrari Club Competizione at Croft. a limited number of tickets probably around a thousand , Made a Big mistake before setting off, I forgot to pack my monopod which basically ruined my keeper rate with the PL100-400 Last two shot with the Z6 and 70-300

Nice images. Glad to hear that you've been able to go a motor race again .

I went to Croft a couple of weeks ago for a bike event and was reassured by their Covid measures so fingers crossed for the BTCC (even if limited crowd). I'm trying to place the first and fifth pictures and wondered if they have now opened spectator access to the whole track?

The first is a shot from Sunny in, the fifth is taken at the complex, I stand on a 300mm high portable step/seat looking over the catch fencing as the cars turn right towards the hairpin.

Currently at a Premier Inn near to Donington Park Circuit to spend the weekend at the World Superbikes Races
Made a point of buying a ticket early on in case of ongoing restrictions - luckily so as I’m one of only 4,000 permitted entry on Race Day
Sad that many more could not be permitted to buy tickets but looking forward to having plenty of space around the track to capture some photos
Hoping to get back to to speed a little more as I’m still trying to get past being ‘rusty’ after so little practice recently due to events being cancelled
Was due to camp for the weekend with a mate but he can’t make it after all so staying at a convenient hotel
Will be meeting up with a great couple of enthusiasts i met at BSB Brands Hatch in 2019 though so looking forward to tomorrow
Shame that the weather on race day is forecast to be quite wet

Anyone from here going ? @Kae1

Hi Rob
Glad to see you're already installed near to Donington for the three days. The more I visit Donington the more areas I'm finding to photograph so I think you should have a great three days :yahoo: ... dead jealous! I'm looking forward to some daily updates from you. Hope your back holds up?
Yes I'm going on Sunday with some (non photographer) friends so will let them decide where they want to watch the racing. As I understand it there will be easier access to the infield so expect we will be "somewhere" in the middle probably around Redgate or Craner's Curves plus a visit to the Esses. As you say with limited numbers it should be possible to move round the circuit rather than find a spot and then stay put for the day! I'll let you know once we get installed and look forward to hopefully being able to catch up .

This one like the others above briefly edited on iPad - could do with some work on Lightroom / PS but has potential
