I recently rationalised my equipment having decided that I had far too much and decisions needed to be made as I could in no way justify it all (to myself let alone to my family)
As a result about 6 weeks ago I sold my EM1X, my Oly 12-100, and my Oly 40-150 and 1.4 TC (also sold the Fuji 1.4 TC) (Previously sold the Fuji 100-400)
I am so pleased that I made the decision just at that point because lo and behold all Motorsport activities in the U.K. were subsequently suspended and the equipment I retained sits in a cupboard during a period when all unnecessary travel and excursion has been ‘banned’ here
I decided that I couldn’t lose the better IQ and Low Light ability of the Fuji system so I retained my XT3 and 50-140 which covers most of what I do during the year including evening Speedway
I also retained a G9 and a PanaLeica 200mm f2.8 along with a PanaLeica 12-60 f2.8-4.0
I decided that the EM1X despite being superb in many ways didn’t justify its value compared to the G9 which cost me approximately a third of what the EM1X sold for
With what has since transpired I’m so relieved to have made the decision !
Since the EM1X was sold I managed one event before everything was cancelled - MXGP World Motocross at Winchester UK which was within short travelling distance.
Spectator access suitable for shooting was very poor (worse than last year) and included less than half of the track so pictures this year were a little repetitive - the long term heavy rain that we’d had complicating matters with very slippery conditions under foot and hail storms during the day !
Hence you will see recent images captured with the G9 and PL200mm f2.8 rather than the EM1X
I love the PL200 and its rendering - very sharp, lovely colours and contrast (in good light) and a good long telephoto option when the Fuji 50-140 is out of range
Feeling very disappointed at all events being cancelled for the foreseeable
future and can’t even leave the house to take alternative genres - but this is an insignificant frustration compared to the current global situation !
Hope everyone out there is staying safe and well and looking forward to better times when they eventually arrive
