In December I spent a week in Morocco. 50km walked, 1800km driven, photography rating 8/10 - marked down due to the local populace disliking people photography and the police getting very grumpy if you photograph certain things (like themselves).

However..

I started in Marrakech. Actually I just fell in love with the place.

Marrakech is just awesome.

Next day I drove to Casablanca. Stopped a couple of times on the way, found out how poor much of Morocco is. Poor, but not poverty. People can't all afford cars, but they can afford a donkey.

I took no photographs in Casablanca. It's got nothing Moroccan Marrakech doesn't do better, and badly mimics European cities in boring ways. The next day though I found some birdies..

..and a pretty Mosque..

..and a lady tending a flock of sheep. The domestic animals of any kind roam free all over Morocco, but they all had at least one person attending them.

Going into Fes I found this stupendously big and utterly incomprehensible chunk of concrete..

Then walked down to the Royal Palace to admire their brass doors.

Fes is full of ancient walls and graveyards, but does have a medina you can wander for hours..

..especially if you're willing to confuse the locals by exploring the parts in which they live. That well is wet because it's the sole water supply for three streets.

I got lost. I did find a way out by following a lady in the traditional Moroccan costume of a Winnie the Pooh onesie.

To be fair, she wasn't in the medina itself. Motor vehicles aren't allowed there, partly because they wouldn't fit. So they have to take supplies in using other means.

Moroccan cities are full of cats. Cute, inquisitive and semi-feral ones.

But after three nights in the cities I wanted to see the rest of the country. So I walked up a frosty mountain into the forest.

Driving back down the other side the next day, I found some more birdies.

..a wadi, which let me practice my panorama skills - although that's only 11k pixels wide..

..and the cutest goats on the planet. He doesn't look pretty but he's fully grown and he's only knee high. I have other photographs of his friends, and they're even cuter in groups.

It took me an hour to drive through it, then I turned around and drove back. I've had worse warm winter afternoons.

But the real landscapes kicked in on my final full day. It took me a day to drive a couple of hundred kilometres because I kept stopping in the middle of a winding mountain road to go, "oh."

So yeah, Morocco. Great food, friendly people, good weather and yes, take your camera.
