Hmm.

I recently picked up an X700 for virtually nothing with a 35-70mm Macro. I should probably research the rokkor universe (I know bugger all about Minolta lenses outside the CLE range) and see if i should buy a lens or two.

Hi, are you referring to the Kiron 28-105mm f/3.2 $49?

I would say it's in Excellent condition, except for the rubber focus/zoom grip is turning grey instead of black. Armour All might help; haven't tried.
The mechanics (focus, zoom, and aperture) are working great and smoothly, and the optics are clean.
The metal barrel, lettering, etc., are all excellent.
It has a rear cap, and a Tiffen 67mm 1A filter, but no front cap.

I'd avoid Armour All and other products like that as they tend to gas (or something) leaving a film that fogs glass.

I added some new SOOC samples for the MD Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.4 at Showcase - Minolta 50mm f/1.4 MD Rokkor

Here's a crop of one of those with only a bit of sharpening added (note shot through a window):

Would a dedicated macro lens like the MC Macro 50 be easier to use than something like a Raynox add-on lens?

Hi, I've never used a Raynox, but it depends on what lens you would be putting the Raynox on and what you're going to be taking pictures of, for awake insects, you may want a longer FL so you get a longer working distance. For coins, stamps, 35mm slides, and other things that don't move, 50mm is a commonly-used FL.

Here's some more info. I suggest opening a new thread to discuss further with people that have more macro experience than myself.

Supplementary lenses like the Raynox work best on longer focal length lenses, while extension works best on short lenses. I suspect 60mm is just about the mid ground where both would be about as effective...
Macro Question

Also see Panasonic Leica 45mm f/2.8 Macro vs 200mm + Raynox 150 some facts.

How would you say these two compare?
