I just picked one up off Ebay, looking forward to getting some time in with it. It has a really interesting look wide open, sharp (ish), but dreamy. I might just hang on to this one and save up for the 75 instead of settling for the oly 45!

Just got this lens. I find it kind of difficult to focus at long ranges with the adapter. However, I am thoroughly enjoying it with macro extension tubes at f16.
Also, the depth of field is astonishingly different between f2 and f16.

Can you tell us what size tube you used for these and what the minimum focusing distance is? I've been toying with the idea of getting tubes for my 45.

I wish my copy were sharper at 2.0, but 2.8 and above is nice. It's not really usable at 2.0 imo. The narrow focus ring is a little tough to use also.

The statement on the car says: "thank You dear Stalin for our happy childhood". I was shocked to see it in a country where millions of people were murdered by this comrad...

Shot with Minolta 2/45 at f/4 in early evening through a car's windshild.

What is the difference between the 45 and 50mm f2 from minolta? Is one sharper than the other?

Yes, two different optical formulas. IIRC, the 50 1.7 is sharper than the 2, and both are larger than the 45 (depends on version for how much bigger).

The 45mm has a 5 bladed iris and the 50mm has a 6 bladed one. So the 50mm renders better looking, more rounded bokeh. Neither has rounded bladed however so you end up with shaped bokeh balls. You get pentagrams on the 45mm{I hate that} and hexes with the 50mm.

Nice pictures Mr. Fluberman! Don't think I will ever dare to make such street portraits... Don't You feel any inconveniences pointing a camera to a stranger?
