Showcase Meyer-Optik 50mm f/1.8 Oreston

    Also check the Pentacon 50/1.8 thread for the latter incarnation of this lens.

    I started using the Oreston on MFT. Very good performance, even wide open. The following is taken around f/4 close to minimum focusing distance (33cm):


    This is the best Meyer Optik lens that I used so far and looks like a top 50mm lens. Much better than the Domiplan 50/2.8 or the Pentacon electric 135/2.8.

    i love the colors in the bokeh! it works great with the flower colors!

    Interesting - I'm not familiar with that lens but it appears to render very nicely.

    I do not see much difference in rendering across many lenses, but the Meyer-Optik designs do seem to have something special and this one is really good. Meyer Optik was later folded into Pentacon and some of their designs continued to be produced under the Pentacon brand. I expect the Pentacon version differs mainly in the coatings.

    I've got the zebra version. Need to press a rectangular button on the side to stop down. So I take shots mostly wide open.
