This lens is a bokeh monster.
Glows nicely when used wide open.
Can also be very sharp, when used @ f8 !

    Some samples :

I love your flower shots with exotic lenses - keep 'em coming ! This last one really stands out as one of your best - I'm just curious, did you simply get that passing girl, or is it one of your relatives you asked to wear that scarf and pullover ?

The girl is no relative of mine, nor did she "pose" in any way.
Actually, I was flat on the ground, concentrating on another pic, when is saw her rushing through the viewfinder. I had already focused on the tulips, so I just had to operate the shutter release button.

I've bought this glass recently and love its "crazy" bokeh and unique character at fully open apperture and appropriate light. Though it also shows decent performance when stop down, starts from F4.0 and further up to F8.0/F11.0.

Not only is the Trioplan a lens with endless character, it's got a great feel to work with (mine's the chrome version... can't speak to the aluminum ones).

  15. IMO, enjoyable lens, nice weight and balance on EM5 with grip, smooth focus, clickless aperture ring. Although marked with a red V (supposedly better coating), there is very noticeable glow when wide open, especially for red / yellow colours and OOF just out of the DOF zone, worse against the light (of course). Stopping down to f4 eliminates most of that, f5.6 onwards pretty good.

Bokeh bubbles can be obtained easily or avoided (some people detest them) by choosing background. Processing on computer by playing with contrast, exposure, highlight, shadow and clarity gives further options in creating flat smoky or 3-D background bokeh. (Must explore this aspect with other lenses).

Some reviewers reckon this lens is over-rated and there is no cause to bring back to life in new form, I was thinking I should sell it. After an afternoon's playing around with pretty mundane subjects, I am very happy that I've got it.
