    Ello all,
I have just had my first session with my Lumix G3. I got home put hte card in a card reader and when I explored it I found that 135 pics were in a folder called PAN_100 and the rest in a folder called PAN_101. I know it isn't an issue but I'm interested as to why?

    Cheers

It means the camera ran out of numbers for the PAN_100 folder so it continued on in the PAN_101 folder.

Either that or these are school course codes, and your camera has just changed classes. ;)

You are a very witty person Ned - I love reading what you have to say. If I see that you respond to some topic that I have little interest in I read the whole thread anyway.

OIC. So there is a limit to the amount of images in a folder?

Yes. Each folder holds 999 shots numbered from 001 to 999.

No. Presumably the G3 was bought used and had somewhere in the vicinity of 800 shots on the counter already.

It was a fresh memory card and I only took about 170 photos.

One thing I did find odd. I converted all the files to jpeg, I know this is pointless but I did it for an exercise. I was watching the files as they got converted, they definately weren't converted in the order they were taken (the file numbders jumped a lot) and also some were definately done twice.
    Any reason for this?

    Cheers

You may have doubled filenames from different folder names (ie, you might have the same filename in an _100 folder as in an _101 folder). The filenames actually follow a date stamp convention, though I can't remember the exact syntax now.

I mean I actually saw some images appear twice, not right after each other but after maybe 10, 15 or 20 other files had been converted. I know for sure because some of the images I had only taken one shot of and they appeared twice during conversion.
