Great article.... Same reason I stay of DPReview for the most part.

Uh, this place is hardly free of obsessing over technical perfection.

True, but nothing compares to DPR in armchair critics.. TBH I'm just back here after almost a 2 year hiatus, but to be fair it doesn't seem that bad.

Nothing wrong with gear talk. DPR gets way out of hand with people bashing each other.

There are plenty of photo threads on here where everyone can share their work. It balances out the tech/gear threads. Although I find a lot of people who spend time in the gear threads don't post many photos in the photo threads. Just an observation.

Good article, something to think about. I would say though, an article like this pops up every month or so, the message is still the same, and art is still a subjective matter, and there is still a huge grey area where a lot of people fit.
There's nothing wrong with piano tuner playing, or a pianist tuning.

    :thiagree:

It's a phase - people learn things from those threads too, and, more importantly, from other threads on these forums. Once oversaturated with gear talk or after getting the dream hardware I'm sure many gearheads get tired of it and start making (and posting) more photographs...

Or the next big thing gets announced and the never ending cycle continues.
