Making a deal with myself.....

People spend based on their own abilities and desires. It doesn't become a problem until the desire exceeds the ability.

If everyone purchased only what we each need we'd never have any fun. I don't mean 'need' in the sense of "I need that lens", none of us 'need' a lens or a camera unless it's your livelihood. We need food, shelter, water and fuel. Society dictates we need clothing.

I have a decent collection of all things Fender. Advertising, catalogs, SWAG, collectibles, rarities. I spent maybe $2,000 on it over the course of several years. The plan was to sell it off when I no longer cared about it and maybe make a few dollars for the retirement fund. Well, it turns out that collecting is no longer that popular, and not just Fender. These old cameras I purchase for my small collection cost about $20 each on average. I'll never make a dime on them, but it's still an enjoyable pastime.

I guess the point is we don't need to justify our passions or desires, nor do we need to limit ourselves based on someone else's perceived notion of what's acceptable. As long as everyone eats first, enjoy yourself.
