How about those spiders at the Spiders' Grasshopper Social - I've never seen anything like that, nor the twig imitating spider.

Flash on or off camera? any kind of diffuser?

I've tried in the past with camera in one hand and flash on the other but never found comfortable. Don't have a macro lens at the momento but make do with the 45-175 + raynox 150.

The first 3 were with a speedlight on the hotshoe. I use a simple DIY ice-cream container based diffuser. You can view it here

The Raynox does a stellar job..I use it from time to time as well. Yet to try it on the 40-150
