Macro question

Hi all.

If I want to focus stack, can I use shooting techniques like rocking back and forth, or even a macro rail, which will make subtle changes in the frame (and perhaps even angle, if my body alignment is not perfect)? I know the proper way is to just touch the focus ring to get shifts in the focal plane; just wondering if focus stacking software would be able to align images made rocking back and forth and on high speed burst. I did a shot like this yesterday, and got three images that look stackable to my naked eye, but would have to be subtly different and therefore may not be.
