I rarely, if ever, use SCN-type modes on any camera, but I know that on some compacts, it is/was necessary to enter this mode to get the camera to obtain its minimum focus distance. Is this the case with the E-PL2, or are the SCN macro modes just setting favorable settings for the shutter, aperture and ISO?

    Thanks,

I never used the SCN modes on my E-PL2, but it does include three macro modes. I expect what they do is to prefer closer subjects for autofocusing.

I believe this mode favors stopped down settings. It won't affect close focus.

Thanks for the information, Promit. At least I will not be wondering if the camera can focus any closer when I am doing close-up work.
