Great price! Too bad it's not available to be shipped to Australia or I would definitely grab one. :)

Anybody else have experience with reconditioned items from Olympus? It is usually returned items that they check and re-sell at a lower price, but I guess most of the lenses are returned for mundane reasons and not because the original purchaser felt the lens was defective in some way.

Now out of stock at the olympus online store. Oh well ... I guess I will hang on to my money for a while longer!

Also I thought the R version had aspherical lenses while the original version did not?

Newbie here----How does this lens stack up against the Panny 45-175, or 45-200?

The Olympus lens is smaller and much lighter than the 45-200, and also comes in silver. Some people say it is a bit sharper too. It is cheaper than the 45-200 by a bit, and in turn the 45-200 is a bit cheaper than the newer 45-175mm.

The reason it is lighter is partially because it has less metal in its construction, but also because Panasonic zoom lenses have the image stabilization in the lens. Olympus does stabilization in the camera body. So if you have a panasonic body, probably a better idea to get the panasonic lens. If you got one of the Olympus bodies with in camera stabilization, you can choose either one.

Both the 40-150 Oly and 45-200 lengthen when you zoom. The Pany 45-175 is one of the new X series power zooms, which has a motorized zoom, and also everything happens inside the lens (like the Oly 12-50 kit zoom lens) so its length does not change as you zoom.
