    Real Name:
I usually take photos in 3:2 and I think it shows my photos are 14 megapixels if I remember. So the lx100 is taking photos at 12 megapixels at what format 4:3? Anyway I love the photos from my gm1 at 3:2 with the 12-32 kit. If that's all I use will I see the same quality of photo from the lx100 at the same focal lengths between the gm1 and lx100? I know the physical differences so what should I expect from the output photo from the lx100 vs gm1 12-32 kit?

I'm getting in trouble and going shopping at Best Buy...

LX100 has a multi-aspect sensor, and will give you roughly 12 megapixels at either 4:3 or 3:2 (16:9 and 1:1 will be less, at 11.3 and 9.5 respectively) from DPReview I read (I don't own one). You get 2 stops advantage (f/1.7-2.8 vs. f/3.5-5.6), the sensor is slightly more than 2x crop (2.2x) but you end up having less DoF at max aperture.

(Edit: just watch a video on the LX100 where the guy said the sensor on LX100 is the same as the GX7, so that should make the quality on par with the GM1 if not better. Of course the handling and the JPEG output is something you want to find out more, in store or online research...)

The LX100 spec sheet on Panasonic’s UK site lists 4272 x 2856 as the largest image size for 3:2. Multiplying those two numbers and dividing by 1,000,000 give 12.2 megapixels. The GM1 at 3:2 gives 4592 x 3064 images, also from Panasonic UK website. That’s 14 megapixels, not 16.8 as I originally wrote.

That's part of the answer to the question - the GM1 has more resolution on the sensor. Is the quality of the LX100 lens better, and if so by how much? I don't know the answer to that.

    My calculator says 4592 * 3064 = 14069888, which is 14 MP.

My calculator says what my fingers tell it to say, which was 5492 instead of 4592. My bad. Corrected.

The only reason I bothered to check was that the camera is 16MP in 4:3, so cropping to 2:3 shouldn't result in great MP. :)
