Lonely Bench

We drove up the coast of Lake Huron today, stopping at points of interest such as the historic lighthouse area of Point Clarke. We braved biting and bitter cold, and slick ice embankments to capture a sense of the elements.

After taking closeup details shots of ice covered objects bravng the winter elements, I headed back to warmth of the car to move on to our next destination. I turned to my right and recognized this lonely ice embraced bench sitting alone against a dramatic grey backdrop.

BTW, I’ve always wondered if I could change dials and handle my little Olympus EM 10 with heavy gloves —— and I am pleased to say I was adjusting aperture and exposure compensation settings and firing shutter without any issue,

I still love this photo after almost three years. A scene that can never be repeated with the intensity of the ice coverage, as well the photo paper backdrop appearance. Very surreal. Thanks for the acknowledgement. Pretty cool how so many followed up with their own entries, making it a theme thread. I wasnt expecting that.

This photo was taken on a neighborhood walk. I never really noticed this bench before as something to photograph.

This bench shouldn't really be lonely.

If you want to be really pandemic pedantic Bo, you could always sit on one of the other benches and chat to the person on this one.

Now I didn't see or know there where other benches around! Does that really make it a lonely bench? :whistling:

Pandemic pedantic! That sounds like something I might steal from you and use for myself.:th_salute:

I agree it shouldn't be lonely, so the next time you see someone sitting on that bench it will be me, in disguise!
Just sit down and have a chat with "me", since I will be in costume I will keep in character all the time so never expect an yes to the question is that you, Bo?
Please report back here how it went!:drinks:

A never ending story came to an end more than a week ago. Originally meant to open October 30th 2011 as a prime infrastructure project not only for Berlin, but all of Germany, the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport "Willy Brandt" became a running gag and a place which baffled all descriptions. More than nine years later, on October 31st 2020, "BER" finally started actual operation for the public - costing almost 5 billion Euros more than estimated.
Kind of ironic: Politicians waited years and years for the grand opening of this project, so the capital of Germany could finally have a big, modern airport. Now the airport is here, but due to Covid there aren't many flights.

Two days ago I had a chance to take a short stroll through the airport. Benches were very lonely indeed, although I have to admit a second row of benches, covered behind a pillar, is actually occupied by a lonely person waiting for his flight. There were far more employees - security, cleaning personal, service crews and so on - running around than actual passengers.

I thought it was just an Italian problem, years of delay and billions spent more :(
I live near Milan Malpensa airport, and I see the same desolation ...... hoping for better times

It was a toss up between Seascapes, Lighthouses or Lonely Bench threads.
As most folk on the bike path were enjoying views of the first two, I felt sorry for the bench. ;)
