Used to see these sometimes in canyons trying to get some sun. Mainly on ledges you had to pass. But I remember once coming across one in a log jamb we had to crawl through. It was about 2 meters away and luckily very cold so it could not really move, but still scary knowing the consequences if it could strike.

This one was free in the grass immediately next to the walking path ...

Fortunately, while extremely poisonous, they have teeth, not erectile fangs, and spray poison on the wound from glands at the back of the throat.

I like snakes, just as I like sharks. Both demand great respect!
