It was hiding inside the cinder block and kept poking its head and looking at me then withdrawing (I was about 10 ft across from the cinder block). Finally, seeing that I didn't look too threatening, it came out to look around and then slithered away.

Called "Jesus Lizard" because when threatened, they can run for a good distance across water.
