The original is a bit of an early 80's classic - turns out Juliana Hatfield released an entire album of ONJ covers (they sound pretty good) and more recently has an album of Police covers (not so good from the snippets I've heard imho) out too.

Juliana Hatfields cover

And of course ONJ's original

Paul Young covered Marvin Gayes' "Wherever I Lay My Hat" and made it his own. Marvin Gaye co-wrote the song and it was on the 'flip' side of "Too Busy Thinking 'Bout My Baby"

And the original -

Off Phil Lynnots first solo album - Ode to a Blackman (also features Huey Lewis on harmonica which is wild)

The Dirtbombs garage-punk cover - Ode to a Blackman

Which is from their covers album 'Ultraglide in Black' which is amazing. Another one...

Stevie Wonder - Living for the City

Obsolete Orkestra (no idea who they are and they don't seem to have released anything else) cover the New Order Classic 'Blue Monday'

The original by New Order from '85
