Belgium, small town between Antwerp and Ghent
When one thinks of beguinages, most people mention Bruges. I have to admit, the Bruges beguinage is lovely, with its whitewashed houses and large central open space.
However, there are other beguinages in Belgium, for instance Lier and also in Antwerp.
Let’s visit the Antwerp one.

The beguinage is situated in a very calm street in the middle of the university region of Antwerp, 5-10 minutes walk from the touristy part of Antwerp, therefore not many people visit the beguinage.
This is the main and only entrance. As You can see, it is quiet, not many people about.

The same after entering, not a soul to be seen. What You can see are brick walls with entrance doors, hiding the houses themselves from view.

Next to the church, a very small chapel with devotion plaques covering the walls.

The beguinage is built around a central square, now an unkempt garden with old, gnarly trees and some unusual statues.

The only "embellishment" in the beguinage, close to the entrance.
