I have just come over to 4/3 from DSL, how good is the 7-14mm lens in comparison to a full nikon one?

Hi flea and welcome to the :43: world.

Which Nikon lens are you comparing it to? Be aware that the 7-14mm would offer a roughly equivalent field of view to a 14-28mm lens that on a "full frame" Nikon. The nearest equivalent lens is probably the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 lens (which costs $2k and is a very highly regarded wide angle zoom). On the APS-C sensor Nikons, the nearest equivalent lens is probably the 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 which offers a "full frame equivalent" field of view of roughly 15-36. A closer match in terms of focal length might be the Sigma 8-16 f/4.5-5.6 (12-24mm equivalent).

The P7-14 would have a hard time matching up to the one stop faster Nikon 14-24 f/2.8, but that's a bit of a mismatch pricewise as well. I feel that it could go toe-to-toe against the Nikon 10-24 DX or the Sigma 8-16 DX.

Here are some links for more info on the P7-14:

I hope these can help answer your question.
