It has a Micro 4/3 sensor. Is it considered a Micro 4/3 camera even though it has a fixed lens?
Short answer, yes and no. Depends who you ask.
Longer answer. Same sensor, but not all of it is used for any aspect ratio, only about 12mp is. Low light and dynamic range are better than the older 12mp sensors given that it's a new sensor. But maybe more importantly it has all the bells and whistles that were available in m4/3 bodies when it was released. (4K, Panasonic DFD auto focus system, etc.). And handling is just about the same as well.
But I would probably get the Panasonic version through GreenToe.com as I did, for much less then list price.
It has a 4/3" sensor, but the active sensor area at any given time is only 180mm^2 as opposed to 225mm^2 for a full 4/3 sensor. So it almost splits the difference between a 1" sensor (116 mm^2) and 4/3."
Separate names with a comma.
