For the past four years I have had the opportunity to travel to a conference for my job. This year the conference happened to be in Las Vegas at the Red Rock Resort and Casino. I had been given a room on the 11th floor facing east. As the resort is on the western edge of Las Vegas, this left me with a view of almost all of the city with the infamous strip front and center. While all of the shots of the city are through the window, I think they still turned out very well.

Being desert, colors can be very vibrant and intense. Day one had a few clouds over the city as the sun rose along with a bit of moisture or dust hanging in the air.

You can see the Stratosphere tower at the north end of the strip and the Ferris wheel which is about 3/4 of the way to the south end.

Day two was a little more clear, but that just made the colors that much more intense. I did not adjust color on these images.

Both taken handheld with the Olympus 60mm 2.8 in portrait orientation to show the color spectrum. The smudge in the sun is due to shooting through the window.

Day three dawned clear and bright golden. There was not a cloud in the sky and only a little haze over the city.

This is a two frame stitch using the Super Takumar 105 2.8 shot from a 3legged thing Iggy tripod, again this is through the hotel window.

On day four I had to be at the airport by 8-8:30. That left me with just enough time to head back out to Red Rock Canyon and catch the sunrise not through the hotel window. I set up on a small prominence just off the Calico Basin road here. This left me with the sunrise to the east over another prominence.

A little narrower with the Super Takumar 105 2.8 on tripod.

This view also left me with all of Red Rock Canyon to the west, just waiting to be bathed in the morning light.

Four frames stitched from the Olympus 60 2.8, on tripod, of the Calico Basin area to my southwest.
