I like the Portra too. Still haven't quite decided if I like the NC or VC better though.

Portra - wow that takes me back a few years to when I was still shooting film!

Portra NC is really great for people (as its name implies!) but it can make some good travel shots too. I don't really do "people" shots but I quite often used to use it for bright light situations with strong colours (e.g. urban markets, busy cities) where something like Velvia or even the more saturated Portras (VC and UC) would have been just too vivid.

I found VC or UC (the ultra high saturation version) was better for landscapes with bright or harsh light (I used UC quite a bit on a holiday in the Caribbean for example) and I liked the shots I took with it a bit better than those I shot with Velvia, which just couldn't cope with the contrast in that situation.

Hmm, this discussion almost makes me want to start shooting film again - but I just can't be doing with the hassle of development, scanning etc etc these days! Digital is far more convenient!

There's some news in Portra these days...
    -The NC/VC are no longer made...but now there's a "new" 160 and 400

But you are are right - Portra is very versitile for people & things :bravo-009:
