Showcase Kodak 12-45/F3.5-6.3 AF PIXPRO SZ

Now we have a native lens from another brand, the Kodak today may not be the one we used to know, but this lens I have never regretted purchasing. My copy at 12mm is nearly as sharp as any of my primes and it only gets a bit soft towards the long end, however AF could be a bit challenging in many conditions. Since now I seem to be the only one here to have got this lens, I'll keep this thread alive and hope you guys can give this lens a try, I got mine for less than a hundred dollars!!

12-45 sounds like an excellent range.
Have you compared the true widest angle with, or example, the Lumix 12-32 or the bigger 12-something zooms?

It actually looks rather nice. The bokeh on those leaves is certainly a bit nicer than I get with the 12-50!

Hi Ulfric

Glad you brought that up, but I have not had any experience with other 12mm lenses. it's obviously wider than 14mm, and seeing the raw files through unsupported image viewer, the uncorrected distortion is much less than that have been found with other 12mm lenses listed on photozone, I guess the software correction would do less crop so the FOV could be quite close to real 12mm.

it does? but this lens definitely lacks that handy macro mode, due to it's poor AF and slow aperture I would want to glue it on the 12mm FL :biggrin:

, then we will have a sharp and cheaper 12mm f/3.5 prime...

I was interested in the Kodak 42.5-160 lens too but after seeing the sample images I realised that doesn't really offer anything more than the 40-150 and 45-150 that we already have

hi ulfric

this is my only zoom at the moment. though i cannot be giving a scientific comparison, i am more than confident to say based on my experience with p14 45 and oly14 42 that, this is probably the best performing lens in terms of corner sharpness, vignetting (I added some vignetting during pp) at its widest fov that the other two arenot offering, but as zooming towards the long end, af gets harder and I don't think it can compete the p14 45 for its overall optical quality, perhaps I'll just see the zoom function as a bonus. i remember the contrast of p14 45 was much preferrable to that of the oly zoom, as well as slightly higher resolution if any more at all, whereas the kodak could lose a little bit contrast to the p14 45. just my a few thoughts, hope it can be helpful.

I think people may have to start thinking twice before being too critical of the JK Imaging m4/3 gear. It might yet be just the shot in the arm that m4/3 needs in the US market.
