kit lenses

    other than the increase in AF what are the advantages of the new kit lens over the old on the EPL-1? I have heard the new lens has a better build quality, etc. I am more interested in the image quality differences.

    1 hour from Sydney Australia.
    I do know its silent focus makes it better for video users as there won't be noise from the focus motor recorded. Not sure about optics.

    I'm pretty sure there are some other discussions on this topic already, such as this one:

    I have a MkII lens - I've only seen the MkI in stores. From my limited time with a MkI and based on what I've read online the new lens might have slightly better image quality. This is as much due to the new design (more stable 2 sections as opposed to 3) as any major optical changes.

    It's probably not worth running out and buying a MkII lens by itself, but if you're looking at new cameras the MkII+EPL2 is going to be worth the $50 or so premium over an EPL1+MkI.

    Also note I've been spoiled by the kit lens that came with my Pentax.
