A contact on one of my Flickr groups recently introduced me to this nifty online software to create mosaics. Here's the link: Mosaic Maker: A world of creative photo possibilities.. Also, he put up a discussion thread entitled "Keeper's Dozen" on there urging members to post their fave/best 12 photos for 2012 as a mosaic. I thought it was a nifty idea and wanted to do the same here on Mu-43.com.

To make it more interesting, I think it best if the succeeding poster were to choose 3 favorites from the previous poster. And to make it easier to refer back to which image, we should just agree to count 1-12 starting from the upper left going right, going down row by row (i.e. 12 will be the bottom right image).

I'm sure it will be difficult for most to whittle their choices down to a meager 12 (I know it was terribly hard for me) so good luck! Am really looking forward to seeing everyone's mosaics.

No one cares to try the mosaic online software? C'mon, it'd be fun. Other than being fun, I think it'd be a nice exercise in reflecting back on the year that was. :p

    OK, Mikey, I'll play

    First off, from yours, my top 3 are 1, 4, & 6. :2thumbs:
I think this will be difficult if the thread takes off, as more and more people post, they won't know sequentially where their post will come, and who was previous, if you see what I mean.

    Comments on the MosaicMaker :-

Square tiles obviously cut bits off 4:3/16:9 images.
    Not high Res Versions
No click thru from each tile to view the larger image. EDIT : I missed the bit at the bottom of the Mosaic Maker where it created HTML to link to each image if people wanted to see the larger version - Now included at the bottom of mine.

Anyway, thanks for starting the thread, and here's mine.

    I like 2-4-10 from Red's mosaic.

You can also set this up in Aperture using the options in the Print window, gives you a bit more flexibility to work with 4:3 files although you still have to crop any vertical images. Here's mine:

You shot over 1000 keepers for 2012? Whoa!

In case anyone missed it, limiting it to the year that was (2012) should make it easier to choose. :) I started photography in January so I didn't have to worry about it. :p

Would you know if LR4 can do it too? I've never found the need to do a mosaic before so I found it pretty neat that the online software can import photos from Flickr directly. :)

Oh right, missed that part! I have 866 on my Flickr from 2012... I'll figure out how many keepers to narrow down.

BTW I remember last year here we had a "Your best shot 2011" thread. Now that was hard!

Still 866 keepers is a LOT! At least with a mosaic it's going to be your 12 best shots from 2012.

    I like 2, 3, and 5 from fin azvandi's dozen.

Had to leave out a lot for my dozen but these are some of my favorites while still keeping it diverse.

I haven't used Lightroom so I can't say for sure. Does it have any tools for exporting layouts, making photo books, etc? Here's a link that gives a good overview of how it works in Aperture. But I'm not sure if it's helpful...?

First off, my favorites from spatulaboy are 8, 10 and 12. Fantastic!

I thought this would be fun, until I tried to narrow it down to 12. I took a lot of pictures this year...

    Hi Mikey,

    Yes you can !!

It's called Collage in LR, not a Mosaic. I followed these instructions Making a Collage in Lightroom 3 « Rodenas Photography & Design (also good in LR4), and after a bit of work reproduced what the Mosaic Maker did for mine, but with more control. e.g. by putting my portrait shots down the middle line, with landscape either side, I was able to include more of the intended image without cropping, but still keep an aesthetically pleasing collage. I won't post it here, or it will confuse things, but if you want, you can see it here 2012 Collage | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
