So far I am pleased I did not expect anything more than a nice kit lens and for the most part it has exceeded my expectations. Plus my wife got a mint one for $217 for my birthday not bad I wanted 12mm I got it and I wanted weather sealing and I got that too.

I do have a question when I move from manual to EZ zoom sometimes it makes a funny musical sound it works great its just funny to hear this little musical sound.

One last thing the reviews on this lens are all over the place but from what I can see it is a fairly nice step up from my 14-42R II not so much in the way of IQ but in range and build quality and usefulness.

Thanks guys hope someone knows about the music thing. :D I do have 30 days to return.

A quick shot of my complex it seems to be fairly nice at 12mm. It was a dreary day and it was drizzling off and on but hey it rains everyday I get a new lens.

Best thing about this lens is the macro mode!

Second best is the 12mm wide end. keep it at 5.6 and enjoy, great walkaround!

Does yours make a faint musical sound when switching from one manual to electronic. It is faint and musical.

Mine doesn't make this musical sound. As you said, IQ wise it's not a huge step up, some copies are even less sharp than the 14-42 II, but you get that sweet 12mm and 42-50 FL, weather sealing, and a decent macro mode.

Hmm wonder what the sound is it is like powering up or down it is very faint. It seems like it is the motor engaging it is very faint and is dada if that makes sense.

My copy makes that sound from what I remember. I always figured it was some internal motor disengaging. It's easy to miss if there's a lot of noise in the room (not that I care one way or another).

Thats what I figured, you know when you get a new lens you are playing with it in a quiet room when shooting outside I never heard it just when I was testing it in the house. :th_salute:

I just checked mine and it does the same, makes a noise when going from manual zoom to electronic but not the other way around. I prefer to use it in E-zoom as it doesn't have hard stops in manual and is very rough when turning the zoom ring, might just be my copy but I did pick it up second hand.

Yup that is how mine is! Thank you and I am getting to like the EZ but I have to learn not to pull back I switched it from EZ to manual a few times. I guess I have always had a slight pull backwards when zooming but never noticed it since my zoom ring only zoomed! ;)

I am starting to really like this lens I understand its limitation but I hope to keep adding some fairly fast primes I have two the Oly 17 f2.8 that I like and my new Sigma 30 f2.8. I now want to add the Sigma 60 f2.8 since the darn Sigma is super sharp and I mean super sharp.

Thanks everyone for the help as usual you guys made me appreciate joined and contributing to this forum. :bravo-009:

Hazza my manual zoom is not very smooth either I assume that is the mechanicals because every review I read they said the manual zoom was a bit rough feeling.

I have the Sigma 60mm and you will not regret buying one, it is one of the sharpest lenses in the M4/3 system and can be had for peanuts. Enjoy the 12-50, it really is a versatile lens.

I believe you the 30 f2.8 is super sharp and also a great deal my wife just got me both lens)the 12-50 and sigma 30) for my birthday and the Sigma I got was only $169( I guess since they now have a new 1.4 version out)I think the 60 is running around 200$. Again thanks for the info I truly appreciate it.

Hi James I just bought a E-M1 for $579 and a 12-50 EZ for $199 used. The camera is new. I'm trying to get used to all of it. A lot different than my Nikon D750 and 28-300mm. I also use a 50mm f/1.8D and 24mm f/2.8D with the nikon. I think the 12-50mm is 24-100mm in 35.

Agree James it took me a bit to figure out the menus and customization of the camera Olympus sure does let you change just about everything i the menus very different than my D600/700 Nikons but fun as all get out.
