Jondaryan Woolshed. Pictorial Documentry

Me and my brothers went to a place called Jondaryan Woolshed yesterday. Jondaryan was a 300,000 acre property with its focus on sheep and wool production. It is famous because it is the oldest operating woodshed in Queensland. In it's heyday there were 52 shearing stands and it could accommodate 3000 sheep at a time. Shearing in Queensland is in spring/summer so between September and December. During this time it usually rains so a Woolshed is necessary to for efficient processing. Jackie Howe is a famous Aussie for the highest record in Australia for shearing 1437 sheep in 44 hours and 30 minutes. This was back in 1892 and he was using hand shears! His week record has yet been unbroken.

Once a year they hold a Heritage festival where you can see the old trades and hop on and ride, or experience old machinery in action. Here are few pictures that are interesting. GF1,50mm Rokkor and Panny 20mm

Watching and listening to the blacksmith tell stories was fascinating. Here he's making a small horseshoe.

He's showing a snake he's made out of three larges rasps (files). Constant heating and hammering on the anvil has created an incredibly strong snake.

The old ladies spinning the wool on their spinning wheels. I am amazed at their skill in keeping the thread a uniform thickness.

I have only the vaguest memories of this places having been there once when I was a small kid. My Dad lived out this way for a while in his younger days. Love the shots, particularly the the hay, corn cobs, and the baby moo cow.

Thanks Raf. I am pretty sure each time these guys get a hair cut the majority of the wool is going to Mr. Giorgio Armani at the moment.

The picture of the hay is the first time I've tried the cross process and it seemed to fit. I love the calf as well, too bad they grow up.:smile:
