Has anyone purchased a camera body from Japan. I purchased a lens and things worked out well. I am wondering if a Camera body purchase would have any issues.

Are the camera menus going to be in Japanese Language only? Could they be changed to English?

You have to ask the seller if the camera is for Japanese domestic market only. If it is then the menu will be in Japanese and can't be changed to English. That's what i was told before.

I am here in Japan and menu on Panasonic Bodies can not be change to English while Olympus bodies can.

I have not tried sending bodies (with batteries) outside Japan yet but for lenses you can pm me up and maybe I could help you with some.

Whaaaat? Why are the bodies Japanese only? That's ridiculous! Thankfully in Korea everything comes with all the languages, AND...I was very surprised, but my camera came with both Korean and English manuals!

I have no idea why the Panasonic bodies' language can not be changed

Nice for you to have 2 manuals, I can't even understand my manuals here haha

I'm guessing it's a way to make sure they can sell them cheap in the domestic market and still mark it up for export without any competition...

So it appears that buying an Olympus from a Japanese vendor is safe as long as you can find the change from Japanes to English in the menu system.

Olympus also seems to have the world wide warranty no matter where you buy the camera.

    +1 for Olympus.

My first MFT camera was a Panasonic G1 Japanese model. When I got it, the menu was all in Japanese and the owner thought it couldn't be changed to English. However, there's a firmware hack that allows you to change the language to English. Never had a single problem with the camera, so look around and you might be able to find a hack.

I have trouble with the English menus. I would have no hope with the Japanese version.

I am going Oly anyway so I should be good.

Thanks to all for the help.

I once bought a Panasonic camcorder from Japan and it could be changed to English. Odd that their m4/3 bodies don't. Of coarse that was 10 years or so ago.

Alltough you can apparently change Olympus menu language, it would be hilarious to have OM-D menu in Japanese...

EDIT: Hilarious to other than Japanese people ;-)

A Japanese E-P5 is on the way via 3 day EMS.

When I bought the 12-35 from a Japanese vendor, he sent me some Green Tea and Origami along with a nice note.

I wonder what will come in the package this time?

Wow I wonder how they were able to send a camera with lithium battery? They won't allow me to send any lithium batteries through EMS
