My E-PL2 starts at ISO-200. The E-PL1 starts at ISO-100. Isn't that a downgrade? I thought the lower the ISO number the clearer the images will be or am I wrong.

Right, but what's at the other end of the spectrum? (I don't know the specs, but...) you have a higher base ISO, but don't you also have a higher max ISO? The (slight) trade off is for the ability to shoot in a lower light situation.

I think it goes up to 6400 but from what I read anything above 800 has too much noise, so with that in mind, I thought it would have made more sense to start at 100 instead of 200.

The EPL1 had a base ISO of 100 and a highest shutter speed of 1/2000. EPL2 goes base ISO 200 and highest shutter speed of 1/4000. So, ignore whether you WANT to use a higher shutter speed or not, they cover the same EV range.

Having said that, the base ISO of all the Pen cameras has been ISO200. ISO 100 actually had less dynamic range then ISO100, so the "best" ISO for the Pens is 200. That being said, I still believe they should have kept an ISO100 as an option. Just my opinion of course.

Thanks for the info, didn't know all that. I love my E-PL2 and just starting to learn things slowly. Never knew what ISO was until I moved away from my PS camera.
