    Hi

Is there anyway to identify if the lens is the 7 or the 8 elements version? The seller doesn't know. Here are the photos of the lens:

    Would appreciate your input!

I have an 50mm 1.4 takumar and to figure out what it was really, I did some search sometime ago,

Here is my summary chronology of the 50mm takumars with easy identifiers..
V1. super takumar 50mm 1.4, (6 aperture blades, infrared mark is between f4 and diamond marks, Aperture Auto mark is 'A', back element surface is slightly curved and protrudes a bit).. this is the 8 element. does not have radioactive element, but still can have yellow tint in some versions.

All others given below are 7 element versions (one thorium including element):
V2. super takumar 50mm 1.4, (6 aperture blades, infrared mark is between f4 and F8 marks, Aperture Auto mark is 'Auto', back element surface is flat and does not protrudes),
V3. super multi coated takumar 50mm 1.4, (8 aperture blades),
V4. SMC takumar 50mm 1.4, (8 aperture blades, has rubber focus ring, last m42 version before K mount started),

yours is V3 here by the name of the lens: "super multi coated takumar ", easy to distinguish, hard to distinguish ones are v1 and v2

OK thank you guys. Is the 7 elements around the same quality? Worth paying 55$ for it?

$55 sounds like a great price to me. It's a very nice lens.

I agree it is a very good price range for that lens.
for any 'clean copy' of pentax/canon/nikon/minolta/konica 50mm 1.4, below $80 is a sweet deal IMHO.
for 1.8 versions $30-$45 is reasonable.
