Hey guys, I read somewhere the Oly fl600r flash is 100% identical to the Panasonic version that looks exactly the same albeit less expensive, can anyone confirm this?
I purchased it for my GH3 for wireless shooting and want to make certain it is indeed identical to the Panasonic version which appears indentical in looks....I'm looking for confirmation all functions will work, especially the wireless capabilities.
    Thanks guys-

I think you might be thinking of the Olympus FL-50R and Panasonic DMW-FL500. These look similar (not quite identical) but the FL-600R is unique.

I meant same as this Panasonic 360 fl360.

I read the fl600r and Pan 360 are the same flash, just wanted confirmation they ate indeed identical for the wireless capabilities.

Not the Panasonic DMW-FL360... that is the equivalent of the old Olympus FL-36 (not the FL-36R - there is no Panny equivalent to that).

The one which is identical to the Olympus FL-600R is the Panasonic FL360L... Just one letter makes a big difference. ;)

Will the Oly 600 allow me to use its wireless abilities with the GH3 Panny?

No, panasonic does not do wireless flash. The fl-500 and fl-360 were equivalent to the olympus fl-50 and fl-36 non R versions (the R representing wireless flash capability). You'll have to use a flash trigger system for wireless capability on the gh3.

According to my user manual for the GH3, it is indeed setup to shoot wireless with the Panasonic 360L flash which is why I inquired as to the Oly version being the same flash but re-branded as suggested on DPReview........but now you're saying the GH3 doesn't allow for this.............are you 100% certain?

The Pan version is hard to find at the moment thus I went with what I thought to be the exact same flash but in Oly branding, have I made a mistake?

The Oly fl600r flash does indeed work in wireless mode with the GH3.

Once in a while I think about getting a flash and learning more about flash photography and what kind of equipment I'd need to get started. Then I read a thread like this and start getting a stabbing pain behind my eyes until I stop thinking about getting a flash. ;)

Steve, why not just stick with the Oly FL600R? It is actually cheaper right now, as Olympus has a $50 off sale at $249 thru end of Feb. Panasonic FL360L is $299. (At Adorama and B & H) I just bought a 2nd one this week.

Todd, thank you for confirming this, Paul stated the GH3 isn't capable of this- glad to get confirmation it does this, thanks.

Spec that's exactly what I did- but Paul's statements were incorrect and threw me for a loop- thanks.

Here's a quick rundown for everyone, since there seems to be some confusion in this thread.

Bodies with a Remote Commander = All Olympus bodies since fall of 2007 (since the E-3 DSLR) which include any kind of pop-up or clip-on flash. That would include all Oly m4/3 except the E-P1 and E-P2. Only one Panasonic body - the GH3. I'm glad they finally got on board, and expect to see more RC enabled Panny bodies in the future.

    Off the top of my head, that list would include (in reverse chronological order) the Panasonic GH3, Olympus OM-D E-M5, Olympus Pen E-PL5, E-PM2, E-P3, E-PL3, E-PM1, E-PL2, and E-PL1, Olympus E-Volt E-5, E-600, E-620, E-30, E-520, E-420, and E-3.

Flash units with no wireless TTL:
    Panasonic DMW-FL360 = Olympus FL-36
Panasonic DMW-FL500 = Olympus FL-50 (Similar to the Canon 580EXII for comparison)
    Flash units with wireless TTL:
Olympus FL-36R is the same as the FL36/FL360 but with a wireless sensor for both RC mode and optical slave.
Olympus FL-50R is the same as the FL50/FL500 but with a wireless sensor for both RC mode and optical slave.
Panasonic DMW-FL360L = Olympus FL-600R (Similar to the Canon 430EXII for comparison)
These are the same as the Olympus FL-36R but with 4 batteries instead of 2 for faster recycling, and the addition of a continuous video light.

All these flash units are part of the Four-Thirds flash system and are compatible with all Four-Thirds and Micro Four-Thirds bodies. Though RC-enabled flash units can only use RC with RC-enabled bodies, of course.
Panasonic never made an RC-enabled flash until the FL-360L because they obviously never had an RC-enabled body until the GH3.

So is it safe to say that the Oly FL600R is the same thing as the Lumix FL360L?
I am in the process of buying a flash for my Lumix GH3 and I just want the same features in FL360L flash but if the Oly FL600R is the exact same thing but cheaper I may as well by that.
