This has been all over the web but the shots I saw were due to flare. Although purple flare it was. Well look at the upper limbs of this tree. I will post a different shot down thread.

This is a massive fungus attacking an old gnarled White Oak tree.

And the fringing on the out of focus leaves is the worst I've ever seen.

    Another Fungus and Flare

OK its flare but why so purple?

    Seemingly Normal Shot

No aberrant ghostly purple here. Distant leaves have fringing.

I use mine quite a bit as do LOTS of other folks. I work outside and am often hundreds or yards or a mile or so from my truck and camera. Can't carry around a camera in the kind of work I do and given I live in real wilderness I am always seeing things to take pics of out here. The phone is always in my pocket.

Understood - but be advised they are what they are. On a side note, the Olympus XZ-1 is now below $300 USD if you need to have a small camera with you all the time

This is my fourth iPhone. None of the others did this.

It's magical and revolutionary - a color indicator to tell you when you're shooting it wrong :clap2:.

In all seriousness though, doesn't seem like too big a big deal to me. All gear has issues, and I'd love to have that flawed iPhone camera in my Galaxy Nexus.

well , i got the samsung galaxy 3 instead of the new iphone 5 (been an iphone user for the past 3 or so years) and i must say that camera inside that S3 is simply impressive.

It uses a Sony sensor and Panasonic lens?

I was thinking the exact same thing... deja vu with some of the threads I've seen on here recently.

I'm surprised to see this in the iPhone though.. I wonder if it's a similar cause (flare + particular type of sensor coating/filter)? Anyone know if the iPhone sensor is a Sony too?

Yeah man... I love my nexus, but wow. Just tried out the camera the other day. I could vomit a better pic.

In the end, it's a phone, not a camera. It is possible to get reasonable pics with a phone (mine is 8MP) but the lens is tiny and so is the sensor. Smart phones also perform a myriad of other tasks as well. It only stands to reason that a dedicated camera will allow better photos. Still, given the usual quality of Apple products this is a surprise.

Working around the equipment limitations are part of the fun.

I use the iPhone as a 35mm point & shoot and it's great if you know its limitations.

iPhone 4S camera does wonders in a pinch.

My iPhone 5 show flare, but it's no worse than the iPhone 4S.
