IMPORTANT NOTE: If anyone plans to use old flash units like the Vivitar 285HV, please check the trigger voltage with a multimeter before popping it into your cam. Some of them have voltage that are high enough to fry your cam. My 285HV came in at just below 6V. Also, I am using the 285HV simply because I had them lying around.

Good use of the Hoodman HoodLoupe too I see! is the Loupe attached in some way to your GF1?

Thanks Chris

Brian

Yes, although I didn't show it in the above pic cause it's kinda ugly ... LOL ... Anyway, here's the hack I came up with in 5 minutes ... I plan to make a nicer looking one when I have more time ...

And for anyone who's interested, here's what it looks like looking thru the Hoodloupe ...

These are superb. I've been thinking about the Panasonic/Leica macro for a while now, but maybe it isn't necessary?!

Seen these before on dpreview I think but they really are superb. You seem to have a reasonable depth of field in these pics - my experience of macro with extension tubes is that the depth of field becomes incredibly narrow making it really hard to get good focus.

These really are great - well done!

Hey Christian these pics are fantastic man! I really enjoy looking at all the intricate little bits that we so often don't see on insects and I just most of the time just pass them by. This has made me want to get up close with them now and really check them out.
What kind of lens would you suggest me to look out for? Do you look for a lens that is called a macro lens or would any lens suit? I know the 14-45 is ok to an extent but it doesn't get really close. I have heard you can get a macro filter to screw in front of the lens. Have you heard of them and are they good?

Thanks,
Brady

I have just got the Canon 50mm f3.5, just need the hoodloope and then practice. Think I have a long way to go to get to this standard though, Chris are these handheld or are these tripod mounted.
