Infrared Fish Ladder

    There's a fish ladder up by the dam of the Grand River where it enters into downtown Grand Rapids. R72 + Circular Polarizer on an Olympus Pen E-P3 with a SMC Pentax-M 50/1.4. (The 50/1.4 has a pretty obvious hot spot to the upper left third at certain apertures, not so much on the 17/2.8).

    nice photos.....I like the flow of water effect.....just curious why is it called a fish ladder? I have never heard of that term before...

    Because it's literally a ladder built near structures like dams and such to allow for the migratory patterns of certain fishes.

    The one I shot is what I think is a Pool and weir type, being the most common where the fish can come in thru the entrance into one pool, hop up to another pool, then hop up again and again until they're back out above the dam.

    Mainly because the fish have quite a bit of trouble making back up this:

    And I've seen em try they can hold their position halfway up for like 2 seconds before falling back down lol.
