Those of you who have seen my photos of Asturias probably think I live in a natural paradise - and it's true! But this province has a long industrial history - owing mainly to its coal mines. Aviles, the nearest town, changed from a small, mainly fishing village, to an industrial town when a large iron and steel works was built here in the fifties. This was followed by an aluminium plant, fertilizer plant, zinc plant and all the smaller industries needed to service them. Just a couple of photos from a drive this afternoon:
