So I created this thread.
Go to a bakery. You can eat badly and then justify it by not buying a camera. Win, win.
What kind of thing do you even want? I often covet gear until I think of all the tradeoffs associated with it and quickly convince myself that I wouldn't use it nearly enough to make it worthwhile, nor would the results please me as much as I imagine they would. It's a pretty good cold shower.
Go for a drive, take a walk, try out some feature on your current camera that you never used before, or put it all down and make yourself a nice meal with good ingredients.
Buy a second hand 3MPX Nikon camera, put a 512 mb SD card in it and have fun
buy a Nikon D5 with a 12-600/1.2 EL lens and have fun
Watch House of Cards backwards.... and have fun
John, take half the money you want to spend and give it to the charity of your choice. That will make you feel better than any gear purchase, imo. Take the other half down to AC and pick your lucky number on the roulette wheel. One spin. 35-1 odds. If you hit you can go on a guiltless spending spree. If not, you will have donated to two charities...
Take every piece of photography equipment you own, stick it all into a slightly too small bag so that you have to strap things like monopods on the outside or carry them in a free hand. Now take a long walk with it all. Problem solved, as you realize you need to get rid of some stuff.
You don't, but I do.
Once I get it my photographs will reach a new level that is currently impossible without the new thing. I know with this new technical capacity it will open new doors to my creativity. Doors that have been closed due to my lack of the right piece of equipment. With this new access to expanded creativity I'll grow into a better photographer. I'll be able to reach my potential.
All I need is this one more thing to make my photographic life complete. I'm so excited!
Didn't you just get a GX85? No matter, I voted buy.
Try moving house to somewhere outside the USA... I think you would find the appeal of the Marketplace forum would drop significantly as you scan the "ships to..." locations. This also helps reduce the trauma of being tempted by great deals on refurbished cameras and lenses. For maximum effectiveness I guess you should pick somewhere outside North American and Europe.
Go travel with your current camera then review the results. Most likely you'll not want new camera or lenses.
"Do or do not, there is no try..."
That was in my fortune cookie recently:
Here are the results so far:
Now I know who my real friends are. I think...
Send the money you were going to spend to your relatives in the Phillipines. What you would spend on a lens they can live on, what, how long, a month, more? Think about it and you'll feel good and they will make you feel like God....
The real friends are saying Yes you do! ;-)
(I'm a good enabler!)
a GAS addict should never be limited by "ship to... " . There are always shipping forward companies; I use www.shipito.com
Even if an item can ship outside USA the price for shipping is usually insane, compared to within USA. So I have my items shipped to California and from there onward, for very little money, to my address in Australia.
Don't let the "ship to..." get in the way of feeding GAS
I use New Zealand Post's "YouShop" which forwards from US, China and UK to New Zealand.
