the name of the object keeps being used but I'm still not conceding a win :)

It is somewhat related to the previous post - hence I thought give it a whirl

Should mention it's the whole object of which you're seeing a part of.
That brass thingy is just one of many making it up.
You're getting there, just need to be a bit more accurate.

Now that's another hint :)

That tells part of storey
Not sure what else to hint without giving it away
An old device now superceded by electronic gadgetry in terms of what this was used for.
Goes back to late 1600's
Not saying this was that old
Still used in mid 20th century

Well, I think I know what the object is 😎 - there are links and tags are spaced every 10 of them, and handles are involved.
